The beauty, that is Alaska, is so much more than ice and snow.

Alaska, from the Aleut word 'alyeska', meaning "Great Land," spans 656,424 square miles. Putting this into perspective, Alaska is approximately 2.3 times the size of Texas and about 1/5th the size of the lower 48 states combined. Being the largest of the United States, Alaska profers 570,374 square miles of beautifully landscaped scenery and mountain ranges.

Also know as "The Last Frontier," Alaska is home to the tallest peak in North America, Mt. McKinley/Mt. Denali (20,320 ft.), best seen from Denali National Park, which in itself spans 9,374 sqare feet.

Though Alaskan winters can be long and dark, they offer a clear, untainted view of the stars, and on occassion, the brilliant dancing colors of the Aurora Borealis.  As Ying is to Yang, Alaska's summer months bring just the opposite. Most often referred to as "The Land of the Midnight Sun," Alaskan summers, at their peak, provide 21 hours daylight, ending with a soft gray dusk.

All of the above make this "Great Land" picture perfect through a photographer's lens.
