As part of the Corvidae family, Jays are very intelligent and crafty.

They are considered an opportunistic species and most thrive living among humans. For this reason many are persecuted as being 'pests'. Jays are considered medium sized birds, having sharply tapered and sturdy bills of moderate length.

They habitat openings in coniferous and deciduous forests and nest in conifers. They are considered gregarious and aggressive birds tending to be quite vocal. They feed on meats (including carion), insects, fruits, seeds and eggs and young of other birds. Jays store their food for winter which allow them to be long-term residents in high altitude and northern climates.
