DARK EYED JUNCO

The Dark Eyed Junco is one of the most abundant sparrows found in North America.

They are easily recognized by their crisp (though various) markings and bright white tail feathers they flash in flight. Juncos are considered 'birds of ground' and can easily see Juncos on a woodland walk flitting about the forest floors where they forage for seeds.

Though they vary across the country, Juncos are generally dark gray or brown, with pink bill and white outer tail feathers.  They nest on the ground in coniferous forests and along forest edges.
